Marathon Relay Teams Can Finish Together

The 5-Person Relay race takes on a new twist for 2006. A Relay Regroup Area will be staged about a block before the marathon finish line so the whole team can finish in unison and support the anchor person as they cross the line. "We want each relay team member to relish the marathon relay accomplishment by crossing the finish line," says Race Director Joe Moreno.

The distances for the 5 Relay legs are as follows (all are approximate measurements):

  • 1st Leg, at Starting Line, 6.3 miles
  • 2nd Leg, at Lindsay Yacht Club, 6.2 miles
  • 3rd Leg, at District of Rock Island, 6.2 miles
  • 4th Leg, at RI Arsenal Island, 3.3 miles
  • Last Leg, on River Drive in Moline, 4.5 miles.

Another new feature this year is where each mile for relay leg will be marked and visibly labled for the runners.
